BROOKLYN – Three federal judges have set the boundaries for New York’s 27 congressional districts, making minimal technical changes. The court announced earlier today that it would go with the congressional districts that were drawn up by federal Magistrate Roanne Mann earlier this month.
The federal court seized control over the process of congressional redistricting in late February when the three-judge panel accepted arguments that state lawmakers tasked with drawing the lines had reached an impasse. During a hearing last week, judges indicated that they would most likely adopt the existing “Mann Plan” with minimal changes.
Under the Mann plan, Chautauqua County would join the 23rd Congressional District – which stretches across the Southern Tier all the way to and including Tioga County. The district would also include Cattaraugus, Allegany, Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler, Yates Tompkins and Seneca counties – along with a portion of Ontario County.
