The oldest person connected to the deaths of two Town of Carroll residents – 34 year old Davide Coggins – had a previous arrest record and was the subject of an unflattering social media page for allegedly not registering as a sex offender.

According to the New York State Department of Corrections website, Coggins first served time in New York’s Elmira Correctional Facility in October 1996 on a charge of first degree sodomy. While in prison he was also charged with promoting prison contraband, and was not released until April 2004. Later, he again served time in New York’s Great Meadow Correctional Facility, being sentenced in July 2008 for two-and-a-half years on a charge of Criminal Possession of a forged instrument.
According to Chautauqua County Sheriff Joe Gerace, Coggins was the only individual allegedly connected to the double homicide who had a criminal record.
In addition to his time in jail, Coggins was also the subject of a page on Facebook entitled “Help Bring Davide Coggins to Justice.” The page had over 60 followers and was active as early as this week. It has since been removed from Facebook.
Only one post could be found doing a “Cache Search” on google. In the post (apparently posted on Tuesday, April 16 – one day prior to the Carroll murders), the unidentified admin for the page calls attention to the fact that Coggins had not yet filed as a registered sex offender with the state. WRFA attempted to reach out to the Elmira Police Department to confirm whether or not Coggins was listed as a sex offender but the call has not yet been returned.
The post from the Facebook page also states that he has currently been working with fellow suspect, 18 year-0ld Josh McCormick as a tattooist in the Elmira, N.Y. area.
The screenshot of that post can be found below:
Coggins and McCormick, along with 18 year-old Ricky Knickerbocker and 18 year-old Steven Todd are accused of being involved in the alleged murders of Gordon and Joyce Skinner of the Town of Carroll, the morning of Wednesday, April 17. All four were captured on April 18 and are being held in Mayville, N.Y. on probable cause.
