OFFICIALS HOLD GROUNDBREAKING FOR NEW ADDITION TO CITY RIVERWALK
JAMESTOWN – The Brooklyn Square Riverwalk system has taken another step toward becoming a key component of downtown revitalization in Jamestown. Yesterday Mayor Sam Teresi joined several other community leaders to break ground on the next phase of the riverwalk project – which will extend the walking path from just under the Washington Street Bridge to Panzerella Park. Following the Groundbreaking Ceremony, the mayor explained why the project is important to the city.
Teresi added that with the latest addition to the walkway, the city is one step closer to having a path that runs from Brooklyn Square all the way to the city boat landing.
Funding for the project came via a $210,000 grant from the New York State Environmental Protection Fund, along with a matching contribution from the city. Local contractors involved with the riverwalk project include Bloomquist Landscaping and R. Patti Construction. Once completed, the project will feature 1292 linear feet of pathway on the south bank of the Chadakoin, along with a permanent overlook area. A 422-foot path will also be provided on the north side of the river. Money will also be used to improve Panzeralla Park Bridge. The project is expected to be completed in Early to Mid November and will open next spring.
COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY PROVIDES UPDATE ON ABANDONED DOG CASE
JAMESTOWN – The Chautauqua County Humane Society placed another dog rescued from a Jamestown upper apartment in May 2011 into a permanent home over the weekend. Ed and Peggy Dantz became the new proud owners of “Moka.” After spending the weekend with their new Lab/Shar-pei mix pet, they have reported back to humane society that she is a quick learner and has already taken to the backyard.
Moka was one of 31 dogs found abandoned in an upstairs apartment with no access to the outside world. Over the course of the five months the humane society has helped the dogs emerge into healthy, calm, trainable animals.
Eighteen dogs from the Cruelty Case still remain under the care of the Humane Society, which is hoping the community can rise to the challenge of providing a permanent, loving home to one of them.

TIBETAN BUDDHIST TO OFFER FREE LECTURE TONIGHT
JAMESTOWN – A man originally from Tibet will be in Jamestown this evening to give a free talk on Buddhism. The Jamestown Meditation Group has invited Anam Thubten Rinpoche to speak at the Renaissance Center at 7 p.m. Since his childhood, Rinpoche has studied Tibetan Buddhism. Today he travels extensively in the U.S. and occasionally abroad, teaching in fluent English. He is the author of various articles and books in both the Tibetan and English language.
