CHAUT. CO. MISSES OUT ON MILLIONS IN STATE INFRASTRUCTURE FUNDING
BUFFALO – Chautauqua County should have seen millions more from the state in the 2008-09 fiscal year. According to state Sen. Tim Kennedy of South Buffalo, Western New York was shortchanged by about $167 million in infrastructure funding as a result of an error made by the Department of Transportation.
According to an article in today’s Jamestown Post-Journal, the four counties in Region 5 traditionally split about 10 percent of funding. Due to the error, Western New York received less than half of that in the 2008-09 fiscal year – instead splitting 4.4 percent of funding. That means Chautauqua County was shortchanged an estimated $33 million. While the situation did not happen under the Cuomo administration, Sen. Kennedy and members of the Western New York Delegation have said they are committed to working with the current administration to fix the problem.
