YOUNG INTRODUCES ‘PROTECT OUR CHILDREN ACT’

ALBANY, NY – Senator Cathy Young is co-sponsoring legislation in the state Senate that she says would better protect children. The “Protect Our Children Act” was introduced by the Olean republican and several other senators in Wake of Caylee Anthony Tragedy.

Since the July 5 verdict that found Casey Anthony was not responsible for the death of her daughter Caylee, Senator Young said her office’s inbox has been inundated with emails and letters from frustrated constituents who are advocating for tougher changes to New York’s child protection laws. Lawmakers have responded by introducing legislation that Young says would better protect children from neglect, repeated abuse and murder.

The “Protect Our Children Act” would create new felonies for concealing the death of a child and failing to notify law enforcement when the whereabouts of a young child is unknown for more than 24 hours.

EDWARDS, TERESI TAPPED TO SIT ON PANEL

ALBANY, NY – Chautauqua County Executive Greg Edward and Jamestown Mayor Sam Teresi have been appointed to serve on regional economic development panel created by Governor Governor Andrew Cuomo. The Western New York Regional Economic Development Council has been established to redesign the relationship between the state government and businesses in an effort to stimulate regional economic development and create jobs statewide.

The Council will be led by Satish K. Tripathi, President of University at Buffalo, and Howard A. Zemsky, the Managing Partner at Larkin Development Group, who will both serve as Regional Co-Chairs. The Regional Council will coordinate the economic development of Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, and Niagara counties.  It is one of ten such councils established in various regions throughout the state.

Other local members of the panel include Cummins Plant Manager David Porter and the Chair of the Cattaraugus County Legislature.

LEGISLATURE ESTABLISHES DOWNSIZE NUMBER

DUNIRK, NY – Residents in Chautauqua County now know the specific number that will be before them when they vote on reducing the size of the county legislature this November. That after the County Legislature last night unanimously set the number of legislators for the referendum at 19. The panel already approved a local law last month setting the number in the county charter to no greater than 19, and last night’s action finalized the specific number. The proposal has been sponsored by Republican John Runkle of Stockton.
