SHERIFF’S OFFICE INVESTIGATES FATAL AUTO ACCIDENT IN POLAND
FALCONER – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office is continuing its investigation into a fatal motor vehicle accident that claimed the life of a 36 year-old woman last night in the town of Poland.
Deputies say the accident occurred at about 11:45 p.m. at the intersection of Hartson and Stone Road. Police say the woman, who was driving on Hartson Rd., failed to stop at the intersection with Stone Rd. Her vehicle left the roadway traveling over an embankment, striking a large tree head-on and finally coming to rest in the waters of Cassadaga Creek. Emergency personnel from the Falconer and Kennedy Volunteer Fire Departments responded to the scene along with deputies and members of the Chautuaqua County WET Team. A passenger, 41 year-old Joseph Martin, was removed from the vehicle and transported to WCA hospital for treatment. He was then transported to Hamot medical center in Erie, Pa where he is listed in critical condition. The female operator, who’s name is not being released at this time, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Deputies were also assisted at the scene by Town of Ellicott police Dept. and the Alstar Ambulance service.
INVESTIGATION CONTINUES INTO DEATH OF HUNTER
STOCKTON – The Sheriff’s office is also reporting that a hunter found dead over the weekend died of a single gunshot wound to the chest and it was not self inflicted.
Police say 33 year-old Jeffery D. Roberts was found dead Saturday near the Cassadaga rest area on Route 60 in Stockton. His body was discovered in a field behind the rest stop by members of his hunting party. In an article in today’s Post-Journal, Sheriff Joe Gerace says it was currently unclear if Roberts’ death was a hunting accident and investigators are looking at the case with completely open minds. Anyone with information regarding the incident, or who was hunting in the area, is asked to call Lt. John Crossley of the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Department at 753-4909.
Roberts was the chief of the Sheridan Volunteer Fire Department. He is survived by a wife and two children.
POLICE CONTINUE INVESTIGATION INTO WEEKEND ROBBERIES
JAMESTOWN – Three attempted robberies that occurred over the weekend are believed to be connected. That’s according to local and state police, who are investigating a string of attempted robberies on Sunday night.
