JAMESTOWN – After a successful beginning two years ago, Women Create, the biennial juried exhibit of women’s art, is returning to Jamestown. For the month of March, the artwork will be on display in the 3rd on 3rd Gallery at the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts, with an opening reception slated for Saturday night, March 1.
Women Create is a community-minded, volunteer-run initiative to support and celebrate women artists by mounting a juried exhibit every other year. It is presented in cooperation with the Reg Lenna Center for the Arts and sponsored by Infinity Visual and Performing Arts and the Cattaraugus County Arts Council. While the concentration of presenting artists is from western New York, several are from northwest Pennsylvania, with one from central New York and one from Ohio.
From 7 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, the creative directors and many of the 34 exhibiting artists will welcome visitors to the Gallery.
Both the exhibit and the opening reception are free and open to the public. Donations will be appreciated to help defray the costs.
Artists salons will be held at the Gallery on Wednesday evenings throughout March. Special events are planned for March 29, SWAN (Support Women Artists Now) Day, an international celebration designed to showcase the power and diversity of women’s creativity.
Regular exhibit hours will be 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday-Friday, March 3-28. Private viewings may be scheduled by calling (716) 664-2465, ext. 227.
