BUFFALO – A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for Jamestown and the rest of Chautauqua County until 6 a.m. Friday and a wind chill advisory remains in effect from 4 p.m. Thursday to noon Friday, making outside temperatures feel as cold as -15 to -20 degrees.
According to the National Weather Service, the storm warning is calling for heavy and blowing snow with as much as 4 to 8 inches today, 2 to 4 inches tonight and an inch or less Friday.
The snow and cold temperatures will make for so tough going during the next day and a half. Travel will be very difficult at times with snow covered roads and poor visibility. Bitterly cold wind chills will pose a risk for frostbite and hypothermia for anyone outside for even short periods of time.
As a result, health officials are reminding the public to take precautions when going outdoors, including wearing hats and gloves and layered clothing. Residents are also asked to check in on area seniors to make sure they are not encountering any problems due to the cold weather. Pet owners are also asked to keep their pets indoors during the cold snap.
