Just one third of all registered voters in Chautauqua County made it to the polls on Election Day. That’s according to Chautauqua County Board of Elections democratic election commissioner Norman Green, who says a total of 25,518 of 77,446 eligible voters cast ballots in Chautauqua County. Green also tells WRFA there were a few minor issues at the polls on election day, but no major problems.
The County board of elections will be counting absentee ballots and provisional affidavits starting November 20, which is the last day to receive by mail ballots cast by military voters. Green says he expect the final voter turnout figure including absentees and affidavit ballots for 2013 to be about 35 percent.
The last County Executive election year in 2009 had a total voter turnout of 29,625 – a little over 2000 more than what is expected to be the final for this year’s election.
