JAMESTOWN – The Winifred Crawford Dibert Boys & Girls Club of Jamestown is getting 267 new energy-saving lights thanks to the IBEW Local no. 106, Ahlstrom-Schaeffer, and Jamestown BPU. The undertaking is part of United Way of Southern Chautauqua County’s, 12 Months of Caring, an initiative that links local businesses and volunteers with community based projects.
Initially, the project was too expensive for the Club to undertake and they were considering other options. That’s when the key partners all sat down to figure out how the lighting could be retrofitted to be more energy efficient using volunteers.
On Saturday, December 14, 20 IBEW members were at the Boys & Girls Club at 7 a.m. to retrofit every fixture with a new, energy efficient model. After the work is complete, the Boys & Girls Club will apply for a rebate through the BPU. This will cover the majority of the costs associated with the fixtures and be applied as a credit to their monthly bills.
The energy efficiency gained through the new lighting should save the Boys & Girls Club around $3,500 each year.
