JAMESTOWN – Dr. Jerome Slater, an emeritus professor of political science at the State University at Buffalo, will deliver the 12th Murray L. Bob Memorial Lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 3, at Prendergast Library.
He will focus on the role the United States should play in today’s world in a talk titled “A Just and Necessary War – But Not Ours; The Case for Military Noninterventionism.”
The speaker has taught and written about American foreign policy for more than 50 years. He is the author of three books and dozens of articles which have appeared in both professional journals and the general media on that subject.
He argues that except for a clear threat of nuclear terrorism against the U.S. homeland, U.S. military intervention in overseas wars does far more to undermine genuine national security than it does to protect it.
The lecture, which honors a longtime director of Prendergast Library and the Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Library System, is free and open to the public. The library is located at 509 Cherry St., Jamestown. For information, call 484-7135.
