JAMESTOWN – There are two seats up for vote in this year’s board of education elections in the Jamestown school district, but residents won’t have much of a choice in who they select with only two names appearing on this year’s ballot.
Jamestown school board incumbent Daniel Johnson is seeking his second term on the Board of Education. Johnson is a JHS alumni with one child still attending school at Jamestown, while another has graduated and is in college.
Johnson spent 22 years with the Jamestown Police Department, retiring in 2010, and is currently the Senior Investigator with the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office.
The other candidate is Nina Karbacka – who is seeking her first term on the Board. Karbacka is aneducator, with a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in music education from SUNY Fredonia and 40 years of teaching experience, at all grade levels, in the Jamestown Public Schools. She is running for the seat currently held by board member Laurel Lucas, who has decided not to seek a fifth term on the board.
No other candidates will appear on the ballot but, as always, write-in names will also be accepted.
Registered voters are encouraged to vote in school board election and budget vote to be held at Jefferson Middle School, Lincoln Elementary School and Washington Middle School from noon to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19.
Any questions on where to vote on May 19, please call the District Clerk at 483-4420. More information on the 2015-16 budget can be found at the school district website.
