CELORON, NY – The ways that services are provided to people with disabilities are changing dramatically. To help people understand those changes, as well as the challenges that those changes are creating, The Resource Center will host a meeting Tuesday, March 24.
According to TRC officials, Policy changes currently being enacted at the federal and state levels are drastically changing the ways in which support is provided to people with disabilities. They say the changes are undoing a system that had been in place for decades … and while they are expected to create exciting opportunities for many people to be able to live the lives they’ve always dreamed of, the changes also are going to prevent some people from receiving the services that they and their families have relied on for years.
The March 24 meeting is an opportunity for people with disabilities, their families, employees of human service agencies, school system personnel, and other interested parties to learn more about the changes that are taking place.
- Some of the issues to be discussed include:
- Waiting lists for services, and an update on the “Front Door” initiative
- Changes in employment opportunities and Work Center operations
- Transportation
- Advocacy efforts, and the importance of making sure your voice is heard!
- Efforts to increase TRC’s Membership
The meeting is open to anyone interested in attending. It will take place in the administrative offices at 200 Dunham Avenue (the former Celoron school building), beginning at 6 p.m.
