FREWSBURG – An internationally touring standup comic and U.S. Army veteran will be coming to Frewsburg later this month to help raise money for flag holders at the grave sites of veterans laid to rest in local cemeteries.
“Longhorn the Comedian” will present his comedy show “Laughter Has No Color” on Friday, February 22 at the Samuel L. Derby American Legion Post 556 (Frewsburg Legion), 9 Meadow Lane in Frewsburg. The event is sponsored by the United Veterans Council of Jamestown and Veterans of Modern Warfare Chapter 20.
Vernon “Longhorn” Davis was born in Central Texas and raised all over the country, primarily in Texas and Kansas. As a military brat he traveled and lived all over the country. His comedy comes from his life experiences as a husband, father, grandfather and 4th generation veteran (Army). Longhorn has created his own style of humor that he calls “Longhorn Comedy” – a mix of blue collar, urban, mainstream comedy with a dash of great positive messaging all rolled into one.
“My comedy comes from a place that allows me to ‘Wow’ with laughter, yet leave positive messages along the way,” Davis says at his website. “My tagline says the ‘Gentleman Outlaw of Comedy’ and there is a lot of truth to that. I can tone it up or tone it down to suit my audience. This has allowed me the opportunity to perform for all types of audiences.”
Longhorn can be followed on Instagram and Facebook at Laughter has no Color. You can find his fundraising page at Thanku4YourService on Facebook. You can also find reviews at Longhorncomedy.com.
The show is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. with a 50/50, basket raffles and barrel of booze raffle being held prior to the start of the performance. Presale tickets are available for $15 each and can be purchased at the Frewsburg American Legion, Ira Lou Spring Post 149 American Legion (364 Fluvanna Ave, Jamestown) or by calling 716-450-6768. The cost for buying tickets at the door the night of the event is $17.
All proceeds from the event will go towards the purchase of more U.S Veteran flag holders to be placed in local cemeteries. The goal is to place over 4500 grave markers in Lakeview, Holy Sepulchre and Holy Cross cemeteries in Jamestown. Over 600 flag holders have already been placed, but they desperately need more funding in order to fulfill the placement of the over 4500 veteran’s markers in those three cemeteries alone.
For more information or to purchase a flag holder for a loved one’s grave, contact Melodie Paladino at 716-450-6768.

This is awesome, and I’ll tell you why… as I understand it, Frewsburg has a history of being quite racist. I take this new development with this comedian to mean that the attitude of the community is evolving toward what I’ll call, the right direction. But maybe I’m wrong. Maybe they weren’t a racist community. All I know is this was something I’d heard from more than one former resident of the area.

Absolutely not true. Don’t believe everything that you hear.

Good luck Vernon.
