WAVERLY, NY – It appears Congressman Tom Reed (NY 23, R-Corning) has some competition within his own party in his bid for reelection.
The Star Gazette in Elmira, NY is reporting that a Tioga County man is looking to challenge Reed for the Republican nomination. The article says that Gary Perry, of Waverly, NY, announced his intentions to challenge Reed during a Twin Tiers Tea Party meeting last week.
Perry hasn’t run for office before, but he did work on the campaigns for Newt Gingrich and Carl Paladino. His platform includes fiscal responsibility, a balanced budget and limited constitutional government.
Reed, a former mayor of Corning who first ran for Congress during a special election in 2010, is currently in his third full term in office and has already announced his intention to run for reelection this November.
The date for the state primary for non-presidential candidates is June 28, 2016.
