ASHVILLE – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says an Ashville man died Thursday morning after being in an accident that involved his motorcycle and a dump truck.
According to the report sent out Thursday afternoon, the Sheriff’s office was sent to the scene of the personal injury motorcycle crash on Rt 474 in the town of North Harmony at about 7:30 a.m. Thursday.
The investigation showed that a Kingsview Enterprises truck hauling an asphalt paver and being operated by 21 year-old Tyler S. Borowski of Bradford, Pa. was traveling West on Rt 474. The motorcycle, operated by 41 year-old Richard F. Jensen of Ashville, was traveling East on Rt 474.
After interviewing witnesses and a joint investigation between the sheriff’s office, Lakewood Police Department and the New York State Police, it was determined that the crash was caused by a culmination of contributing factors. The Kingsview truck was attempting to make a left hand turn off from Rt 474 and onto Magnolia Road and failed to yield the right of way to the oncoming motorcycle. The motorcycle was traveling at a very high rate of speed and was unable to avoid the collision. Investigators add that Jensen laid the bike down on the pavement and slid for approximately 125 feet. The motorcycle then struck the Kingsview truck in the front tire causing it to break into dozens of pieces. Authorities say Jensen died at the scene as a result of the accident.
Rt 474 was closed from Ashville to Lakewood for approximately 3 hours during the investigation. Charges are pending the outcome of accident reconstruction.
Not really sure how they can find fault of the kid driving the truck? There’s a curve by Ashville General, if the bike was going as fast as they claim, the bike wasn’t even in view when the truck started his turn.
