SHERMAN – Chautauqua County Sheriff’s officers say three people were sent to the hospital following a two car, head-on crash that took place early Saturday morning in Sherman.
According to the Sheriff’s office, 19 year-old Dakota Bird of Ripley was driving south on Pelton Road around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when he crashed into a northbound vehicle driven by 21 year-old Ronald Miller of Mayville. Deputies say the vehicles crashed at a hillcrest, causing extensive damage to both vehicles. Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles using a the Jaws of Life.
Bird was taken by ambulance to Westfield Memorial Hospital, where he was airlifted by Starflight to the Hamot Medical Center in Erie. Miller was flown from the scene to Hamot. A passenger in Miller’s vehicle, 20-year-old Stephany Cloutier of Ripley, was taken to Hamot via ambulance, while another passenger was not injured.
Firefighters from Sherman, South Ripley, and Mayville also responded to the scene. Charges are pending following an investigation.
