MAYVILLE – A third suspect in the 2013 Carroll Double Homicide Case has reached a plea agreement with the Chautauqua County District Attorney’s Office.
The Jamestown Post-Journal is reporting Wednesday that Joshua McCormick recently pleaded guilty with the intention of testifying against co-defendant Davide Coggins. McCormick was facing several charges, including two counts of first degree murder. The report did not give specific details regarding his plea deal.
Today’s article also says that public defender Ned Barone, who’s been assigned as legal council for Coggins, made a motion for a mistrial in County Court on Tuesday following the news of the McCormick plea deal. However, the request was denied by Judge John Ward.
Jury selection in the Coggins trial is still ongoing. At last word, 11 jurors had been seated, while a 12th juror was still being sought, along with four alternates.
Coggins is accused of being the ringleader in the April 2013 double murder, in which he and three others drove from Elmira to Wheeler Hill Rd. in Carroll to conduct a home invasion at the residence of Gordon and Joyce Skinner. The four are then accused of brutally assaulting and killing the couple and then setting their home on fire to hide their crime.
Coggins is facing two counts of first degree murder. Co-defendents Ricky Knickerbocker and Steven Todd also reached a plea deal with the DA’s office, in exchange for testifying against Coggins once his trial begins.
Jury selection in that trial is expected to continue Wednesday in County court.
