MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Legislature will meet Wednesday in Mayville and will likely approve a budget for next year with only slight changes to what was proposed last month by county executive George Borrello.
After reviewing the budget, the legislatures various committees have taken nearly $460,000 out of the county tax levy for next year. Even with that reduction, the proposed tax levy increase would still go up by more than $890,000 – or 1.4 percent.
Still, because there was also a growth in total value of taxable properties around the county, the tax rate for property owners would see a slight 6 cent decrease and would be $8.38 per $1,000 of assessed property value.
The legislature will meet Wednesday at 2 p.m. for its regular monthly business, and will then reconvene at 6:30 p.m. in the legislative chambers to finalize and approve the budget.
