JAMESTOWN – Mayor Sam Teresi says he and his staff are busy putting together his annual State of the City report for the city council and residents in the community.
Under the city charter, the mayor is required to “communicate to the City Council at the first regular or special meeting of the City Council in January of each year a general statement of the affairs of the City in relation to its finances, government and improvements with such recommendations as the Mayor may deem proper. He/she shall be responsible for fully informing the City Council on an ongoing basis as to the financial condition and needs of the City of Jamestown and file with the City Council an annual report of the financial affairs of the City.”
Teresi recently told WRFA that as with past years, there will be a lot of information to include.
“We – because it is a group effort of the administration – are working to put together the 2018 review together as we speak, matching up with some of the goals and objectives from a year ago that we had put out there,” Teresi said. “I’m also working with all the department heads in gathering up what all their goals and objectives are for the coming year and the things that they would like to be dealing with and things that they know to be a priority.”
While the mayor won’t disclose specific details involving possible initiatives for the new year until he delivers his report to the council members, we do know based on past conversations that one of the major objectives will be a continued focus on economic development in the city. With the aging vehicle fleet in the Department of Public Works, it’s also likely the mayor will provide details of a bonding initiative to help pay for new vehicles and equipment.
The state of the city report will be delivered to the City Council on Monday, Jan. 28 during its regular voting session and will also be made available online at the city website for the public to review.

Not only will the mayor share general thoughts about the upcoming State of the City report, but he’ll also discuss downtown parking, the search for a new city council member to fill a recently vacated seat, as well as a recently awarded $100,000 grant from the state to help with a potential river front development project on the South Bank of the Chadakoin River.
