JAMESTOWN, NY – City police have charged two individuals following their alleged involvement in a car theft and police pursuit that took place early Sunday morning.
According to a media release from the Jamestown Police Department, officers noticed a vehicle that was being operated without headlights at about 3:30 a.m. Sunday, March 29. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the operator led him on a short pursuit down Lister St. As the vehicle went over the railroad tracks, it went off the road and crashed into a wooded area on the west side of the roadway.
Police say both occupants then fled the vehicle, with one of them being immediately taken into custody. Police say the suspect is identified as 18 year-old Kody Rudolph of Jamestown.
The second occupant allegedly fled into a wooded/swampy area in an effort to evade police, but Jamestown K-9 Mitchell was brought into the scene and soon was able to him down. Police say the second occupant was found to be a 14 year-old male.
During the investigation, police also learned that the vehicle the two were riding in was stolen.
Rudolph was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child and unauthorized use of a motor vehicle and sent to the city jail. The 14 year-old was sent to WCA for treatment of minor injuries and onset of hypothermia.
