WARREN, PA – The Pennsylvania man arrested for his involvement in the February 2016 homicide of an 18 year-old from Russell will spend the rest of his life in prison.
The Post-Journal is reporting that 27 year old James McDaniel entered a plea of guilty to first degree murder in Warren County Court for his involvement in the death of 18 year-old Marcus Mattson.
In exchange for the plea, Warren Co. District Attorney Rob Greene agreed to take the death penalty off the table for homicide and to not prosecute the other charges McDaniel was facing. Instead, McDaniel will serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Mattson was last seen late Friday morning, Feb. 5 2016 and was reported missing on Saturday. His vehicle was found on fire two days later in a remote area of Warren County near Youngsville. An ensuing investigation by police led them to the arrest of both McDaniel and 23 year-old Gary Williams of North Cambria. Mattson’s body was recovered following an apparent confession by McDaniel.
Williams was also charged for his role in allegedly helping to dispose of the body and taking evidence connected to the crime. The status of his case was not provided.
