JAMESTOWN – Local families who’ve seen a direct impact from the recent rise in drug use in our area now have a support group that will be providing them with help.
Nar-Anon – a nationally recognized support group dedicated solely to families affected by drug addiction – will begin holding meetings in Chautauqua County beginning next week.
According to a recent report in the Post-Journal, the local support group meetings are being initiated by area resident Grace Almleaf, who was concerned about the lack of support for families coping with addiction in Chautauqua County.
In the past two years, Chautauqua County has seen a significant rise in drug use – primarily heroin and other opiates along with Methamphetamine. County government officials and local organizations have been working on finding a way to fight addiction, but so far its been an uphill battle.
Almleaf, who will be chairing the group’s first few meetings, said the environment will be welcoming and one where families can speak openly about their issues without fear of judgement.
The first Nar-Anon meeting will be held Tuesday, March 31 at 7 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church library, located at 556 E. Second St. in Jamestown. Subsequent meetings will be held every Tuesday at the same time and place.
