JAMESTOWN – New York State Police were busy Friday and Sunday dealing with two standoffs in Chautauqua County – one in the north county and the other in the town of Harmony.
On Friday state police from the Jamestown barracks were called to a wooded area on Hoag Rd. in the town of Harmony shortly before 11 a.m., where they believed a suicidal man was armed. After nearly four hours, the man surrendered himself to police with no injuries being reported. The man was then transported to WCA Hospital for a mental health evaluation.
State police in Fredonia were called to a home on Werle Rd. in the town of Sheridan just before 10 a.m. Sunday for a domestic dispute. During the incident, police say 43 year-old Jeffrey Gizowski barricaded himself in the home, which lead to a 13 hour standoff with authorities. Gizowski eventually turned himself in and no injuries were reported. State police say Dunkirk police also assisted at the scene and charges are pending.
