VILLENOVA – A Silver Creek woman is in intensive care after being pulled from the wreckage of a one-vehicle accident early Sunday morning in the north county. Chautauqua County Sheriff Deputies say 28 year-old Valerie Roach was traveling along Route 83 in the town of Villenova at about 5:20 a.m. when her car left the road and struck a tree.
Deputy Stephen Romanik responded to the incident and on arrival found the vehicle engulfed in flames and Roach pinned in the drivers seat. According to the police report, Romanik and other deputies attempted to extinguish the fire with an extinguisher, but could not prevent the fire from spreading.
Deputies and an on scene passerby finally gained access to the vehicle by breaking the windows and were able to extricate the operator out of the vehicle seconds before the vehicle became fully engulfed.
The operator was treated on scene by South Dayton and Cassadaga Fire personnel and was flown via Starflight to Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo. The sheriff’s office said that charges are pending, following an investigation.
