SHERMAN – A Sherman man faces a charge of illegal gun possession after being arrested during a traffic stop last week.
Sheriff Deputies say 34 year-old Anthony Crouch was stopped for a traffic violation in the town of Sherman just before 1 p.m. last Wednesday.
During the stop, it was found that Crouch was allegedly in possession of an unregistered pistol, an illegal gravity knife, and a small amount of marijuana. It was also found that his license was suspended.
Crouch was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Firearm, criminal possession of a weapon 3rd, unlawful possession of marijuana, AUO 3rd and no inspection. He was arraigned in Town of Chautauqua Court and committed to the Chautauqua County Jail on $10,000.
Criminal Possession of a Firearm is a Class E Felony in New York State, and earlier this year Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson had said he would no longer seek plea deals for anyone facing illegal gun charges.
