MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office is urging all county residences to be aware of possible phone call scams that have been reported in the area.
One of the latest scams the Sheriff’s Office has received was from a victim who received a telephone call from a person stating they have won a million dollars, but in order to get the million dollars he/she would have to send them a large amount of money to get the winnings.
The caller will sound very convincing that you have won this money but don’t fall victim to their scam. Investigators say these people are usually from over seas and have been doing these types of scams for years.
If anyone receives these types of calls its encouraged you tell them not to call you again and hang up. Do not carry on a conversation with these people and never give out your personnel information. If the person keeps calling make sure you contact your local police and report it.
