MAYVILLE – Two people were arrested Monday afternoon after they allegedly tried to run from Chautauqua County Sheriff’s deputies in Mayville.
Officers say the incident took place on Route 394 when a pick up truck allegedly committed a traffic violation, but refused to stop when deputies tried to pull it over. After a short pursuit, the truck went off the road and became disabled.
Deputies say the driver, 44 year-old Kevin Newby of Sherman and his passenger, 25 year-old Jessica Mulvin of Corry, Pennsylvania, then tried to flee on foot but were soon apprehended.
Newby was allegedly found to be in possession of a small baggy of heroin. Both were charged with 2nd-degree obstruction with Newby also facing drug charges.
The two are scheduled to appear in Chautauqua Town Court at a later date.
