CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY – Several Memorial Day events are on schedule for throughout Chautauqua County. Many of the events are being organized by various veteran service groups in the community.
- JAMESTOWN – the annual Memorial Day parade will take place on Monday with the parade lineup set for 9 a.m. and a start time of 10 a.m. The parade will lead off on Fourth St. and will proceed left onto Prendergast Ave. and will end at Lakeview Cemetery, where a ceremony will then take place.
- CELORON – The Village of Celoron is holding Memorial Day services at the Veterans’ Memorial in Lucille Ball Memorial Park on Monday at 9 a.m. The Main Address will be given by Gordon Carlson, Commander of Herman Kent Post 777.
- LAKEWOOD – The Villages of Lakewood and Celoron will host a joint parade from Southwestern School to the Sunset Hill Cemetery – commencing at 10:45 a.m.
- BUSTI – The annual Busti Memorial Day Parade will begin at 9 a.m. Monday at the site of the old New Beginnings Restaurant on Busti Sugar Grove Road. The Busti Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary invite the public to a free breakfast following the service.
- FALCONER – Falconer’s Memorial Day parade will be held Monday, with participants assembling on Dow Street at 9:30 a.m. The parade will begin at 10 a.m. and travel down West Main Street to North Work Street, continuing to Pine Hill Cemetery, where a ceremony will take place. The legion will be hosting a buffet beginning at noon at their post at 132 W. Main St., and all are welcome to join them.
- KENNEDY – Chautauqua County Executive Vince Horrigan has been selected to be the keynote speaker at this year’s Memorial Day event Monday in the town of Poland. The parade will begin at 11:45 a.m. from the Kennedy Fire Hall and then proceed to Riverside Cemetery where the program to honor veterans and loved ones will take place.
- ASHVILLE – The town of North Harmony will hold a Memorial Day service Sunday at 2 p.m. at Veterans Park, located in Ashville. All are welcome to attend.
- MAYVILLE – Mayville will hold its annual Memorial Day parade on Monday, beginning at 10:30 a.m. from the town of Chautauqua Community Building on Academy St. The ceremony will be held in the veterans section of Mayville Cemetery. This year’s keynote address, “Why We Remember,” will be delivered by Jonathan D. Schmitz, archivist and historian for Chautauqua Institution.
- SINCLAIRVILLE – The 92nd annual observance will be held Monday and will start near the intersection of Jamestown Street and Main Street with step off at 9 a.m. The parade will proceed to the Evergreen Cemetery near the Soldiers Monument for the Memorial Day Service. Todd Langworthy, town of Pomfret historian, will serve as guest speaker for the event.
St. Susan Center will be honoring veterans and observing Memorial Day, Monday, by being closed. Regular meal service will resume Tuesday. “We understand the importance of being open daily to provide meals to our community, but it is also important to honor and respect those in the community who have served this great country,” said Jeffrey Smith, executive director. “We wish everyone a safe and blessed holiday weekend.”
