CHAUTAUQUA COUNTY – Wednesday is Veterans Day and there are several events scheduled to honor an estimated 11,000 veterans currently living throughout the county.
In Jamestown, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 53 will host a ceremony at 10 a.m. at the Veteran’s Memorial Park on West. Third Street.
Later in the morning, representatives from the VFW and the American Legion Ira Lou Spring Post 149 will meet at the corner of Third and North Main streets, with the Jamestown High School Marching Band also on hand to play the national anthem and taps.
A service is also scheduled to take place at approximately 11 a.m. at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
Following that service there will be a ceremony at Soldier’s Circle at Lake View Cemetery, starting at noon.
The village of Celoron and the American Legion Herman Kent Post 777 will also hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. at the Veterans Memorial in Lucille Ball Memorial Park.
Two local organizations will also be serving free breakfast to all veterans.
The Jamestown Elks Lodge at 339 E. Fourth St will serve breakfast from 10 a.m. to noon. And the Jamestown Boys & Girls Club will serve breakfast to veterans from 8:30 to 10 a.m.
