48 year-old Richard Matt and 34 year-old David Sweat escaped from a maximum security state prison in Clinton Co., NY during the early morning of Saturday, June 6.

CLINTON COUNTY, NY – State and federal authorities searching for two convicted killers who escaped from a maximum security state prison more than two weeks ago have shifted their focus yet again.

According to reports from CNN on Monday, the latest search area is Owls Head in Franklin County, an area roughly 20 to 25 miles west of the Clinton Correctional Facility in Clinton County, the prison from which Richard Matt and David Sweat broke out on June 6.

The shift in focus Sunday night comes after authorities spent much of the weekend in nearby Allegany County after a possible sighting of the two fugitives was reported Saturday.

Part of the search has now been wrapped up, although extra patrols are being maintained in the area as a precaution.

While neither Matt nor Sweat have been found, authorities in Clinton County have charged one person who worked at the prison for allegedly helping the two escape. A second prison employee was also placed on leave.

As many as 800 law enforcement officers have participated in the manhunt. A $75,000 reward is being offered for information leading to either man’s capture.
