CLINTON COUNTY, NY – The New York State Police is continuing its search for two escaped inmates from the Clinton Correctional Facility.
According to state police in Northern New York, Leads continue to be generated along the Clinton and Essex County border and residents will notice an increased police presence in this area.
Members of law enforcement will be going door to door in and around the surrounding area and checking homes and seasonal residences.
At this time, more than 440 corrections and law enforcement officers are involved in the region.
In addition to the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision, the FBI, U.S. Marshals and U.S. Customs and Border Protection are also assisting the State Police.
Escaped inmates 48 year-old Richard Matt and 34 year-old David Sweat were first unaccounted for during a 5:30 a.m. bed check on Saturday, and executed an elaborate escape plan.
Both are considered to be a danger to the public. If located DO NOT approach them. Contact 911 or the New York State Police immediately at (518) 563-3761.
