TOMPKINS COUNTY, NY – Sen. Charles Schumer on Friday addressed the need for more support by the federal government to help communities struggling in the battle against Opioid Addiction.
On Friday afternoon Schumer was at the Alcohol and Drug Council of Tompkins County. He used his appearance to call on federal officials to release over $3 billion from the just-passed federal spending bill aimed at fighting the opioid crisis.
Earlier this year, President Donald Trump called the opioid crisis a ‘national emergency,’ which Schumer said underscores the urgent need for these funds to be delivered to communities as soon as possible.
Once delivered, Schumer said the money will mean more treatment and rehab programs, more education programs, more prevention programs and more aggressive enforcement of drug trafficking laws in communities.
