JAMESTOWN – A Rochester man is in police custody after he was found to allegedly be in possession of 95 bags of heroin.
Jamestown Police Captain Robert Samuelson says officers from the Jamestown Police Department and the New York State Division of Parole teamed up Tuesday night for a GIVE (Gun Involved Violence Elimination) initiative detail, which pairs up police and parole officers to conduct home visits of parolees within the city.
Samuelson says officers were doing a check on a parolee at 222 McKinley Ave. During the check, they located 31 year-old Jemarr T. Smith of Rochester inside the apartment and say he was allegedly smoking marijuana. During questioning Smith allegedly provided a false name and was taken into custody for false impersonation and unlawful possession of marijuana.
While en route to the city jail, Smith was observed to allegedly be attempting to dispose of something from his pants. Police checked the back seat of the patrol vehicle and found 95 bags of heroin that was left there by the prisoner. Officers then charged Smith with 3rd degree Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Smith is currently in the city jail awaiting arraignment.
