ITHACA – Martha Robertson (D-Ithaca), who’s challenging Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning) for the state’s 23rd Congressional District, is criticizing her opponent this week for failing to agree to more debates.
On Tuesday Robertson issued a statement calling on Congressman Reed to change his mind and join her in a televised debate in Western New York on TV station WGRZ.
WGRZ – Channel 2 has proposed a live, televised debate for both campaigns, which Robertson has accepted and Reed has declined.
Robertson explained that Voters in Western New York – who account for one third of the 23rd Congressional District – deserve an opportunity to watch a live, televised debate, yet Reed is not willing to provide that opportunity.
Last week Reed’s campaign announced that the Republican incumbent from Corning had agreed to three debates – including one with The Jamestown Post-Journal. Another debate will take place in the office of the Olean Times Herald and a third debates will take place on TV station WETM, serving the eastern part of the district.
