The Jamestown area got its first dose of major snowfall for the season Thursday night and Friday morning as 3 to 5 inches of heavy, wet snow fell on the area.
The weather caused slow going for the afternoon and early evening commute on Thursday as motorists contended with sleet and freezing rain that caused slippery road conditions.
The arrival of the weather late in the day Thursday led to Jamestown Public Schools canceling all after school activities for the afternoon and evening.
No local schools are cancelled Friday, although all schools in Warren County to the south are running on a two hour start delay.
The Chautauqua Region actually faired better than areas to the east, including New York City, which saw as much as six inches of snow fall and led to several mass transit delays.
We will continue to see winter-like temperatures for over the weekend but no significant snowfall is expected.
