WASHINGTON – Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning, NY 23) this week announced plans to reintroduce the Help Ensure Lives are Protected (HELP) Act, a bill that would allow federal prosecutors access to more severe penalties, including life in prison or the death penalty, when prosecuting certain criminal drug cases.
The announcement comes following the arrest of a Buffalo man with thousands of lethal doses of fentanyl.
In announcing the proposed federal legislation, Reed said that Victims and their families deserve justice and fair treatment and that the legislation will empower law enforcement officials to hold drug dealers responsible for their actions.
Chautauqua County District Attorney Patrick Swanson joined other officials in supporting the proposal.
