WASHINGTON -Chautauqua County’s representative in Congress has sent a letter to the White House detailing his “Honest Proposal,” a minimum three-year step-by-step plan to tackle America’s debt problems.
Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning) is one of 25 House Members collaborating on the Honest Proposal. They met as recently as last week and will continue meeting ahead of the February 7th default deadline to solidify details and pitch to other Members.
Reed said his letter to the president is a clear-cut outline of the proposal they’ve been working on and a signal to the President they are serious about putting it into play.
The Honest Proposal’s first step raises the February 7th debt ceiling limit by the amount equal to the spending reductions, reforms, and removal of waste, fraud, and abuse already identified by both Republicans and Democrats. Congressman Reed’s letter to the White House included suggestions for $573 billion worth of spending reforms.
