OLEAN – Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning) on Tuesday met with area highway and transportation officials to listen to the challenges faced by towns and villages throughout his district as they make road and bridge upgrades.
The Corning Republican was on hand at the event in Cattaraugus County to also listen to suggestions for the federal highway bill, which is up for re-authorization and to also brainstorm ideas for the solvency of the Highway Trust Fund.
The highway construction bill up for re-authorization in September. The bill authorizes funds for highway safety, motor carrier safety, transit and other programs funded out of the Highway Trust Fund. Reed says the current version of the bill is a step in the right direction but he is collecting input on ways to make the bill better by trying to eliminate some of the bureaucracy that slows projects.
