WASHINGTON – Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning, NY 23) says constituents in his district continue to express concern over Washington’s ever-increasing spending habits.
A recent media release from the congressman’s office says that the Corning Republican spent the last two weeks crisscrossing the eleven-county district holding roundtables, meeting with small businesses and wrapping up his 137th town hall. He says during those meetings, the most consistent theme was the frustration taxpayers have with spending habits in the nation’s capitol. As a result, Reed says he is determined to continue holding Washington accountable for its spending and making sure the House doesn’t revert back to its old ways of doing business.
Reed pointed to the recent cuts in discretionary spending lines as a sure sign the House is moving forward in the years since Democrat Nancy Pelosi held the speaker’s gavel. He said that steps taken since then in the House to force federal spending to become more efficient and effective have resulted in some of the most significant spending reductions in modern history, adding that they need to continue.
The statement from Reed came at the start of this week, when the House started the process of considering the first of 12 annual appropriations bills.
