FREDONIA – Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning, NY-23) was in Chautauqua County earlier this week and made a stop in Fredonia to visit with employees of ConAgra, which announced last month that it was closing down its north county food processing operation.
Reed says he met with the workers because he wanted hear the concerns of the employees. He also said that its clear the most productive path forward is to take a team approach and be an engaged resource for them.
“We have in Chautauqua County one of the strongest work forces that are out there and I applaud Vince Horrigan and others who are trying to do the outreach to attract potential investors,” Reed said. “Because once they’re made aware of our area – the quality of live we have plus that quality workforce that we have – I’m very optimistic and very hopeful that we’ll get a solution that means jobs for today and tomorrow.”
Reed met with workers and local officials on Monday to map out the next steps for the more than 400 affected ConAgra employees and the wider impact the plant closure would have on Western New York. Reed and local officials were joined by Dean Devita, Secretary-Treasurer of the regional SEIU, and over 50 members from the community.
