CORNING – Congressman Tom Reed (R-Corning) has earned some new endorsements in his bid for reelection, including his first endorsement from an organized labor group.
On Tuesday, Reed announced that he has earned the endorsements of the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART) and the Police Conference of New York.
In addition to Tuesday’s endorsement, the NO LABELS coalition out of Washington has also recognized what it calls “Reed’s work across the aisle” and recently awarded him the “Problem Solvers Seal of Approval.” The organization pledges to put labels aside and focus on fixing America’s problems while creating jobs.
Additionally, Reed has received a letter of recognition from the National Conference of Firemen and Oilers (SEIU) for his work with local officials and employees dealing with the closure of ConAgra in Dunkirk.
Even with the newly announced endorsement from SMART, Reed still trails his opponent in that category by a significant margin. Martha Robertson (D-Topkins County) has been endorsed by more than a dozen organized labor groups, including the American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE), American Federation of Teachers, American Postal Workers Union, International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers, International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), New York State AFL-CIO, New York State United Teachers, Sheetmetal Workers International Association, United Auto Workers (UAW) and United Steel Workers (USW).
