The Randolph Central School bus driver accused of inappropriately touching a child has reached a plea deal with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s office. According to a release from the district attorney’s office, John Hitchcock pleaded guilty in Chautauqua County Court to Endangering the Welfare of a Child to satisfy an indictment arising out of the defendant’s employment as a bus driver for Randolph Central Schools.
According to District Attorney David Foley, the plea covered a number of charges contained in the original indictment relating to a student. The D-A says that the guilty plea insured that the very young victim would be spared the trauma of testifying in court, and held the defendant accountable.
Hitchcock, who had been held in Chautauqua County Jail since his arrest on March 8, 2013, was accused of sexually abusing a 6-year-old male from September to October 2012 between Randolph and Ashville.
Hitchcock is expected to receive three years of probation for the charge. Sentencing is scheduled for July 14, 2014.
