JAMESTOWN – A series of statewide public forums focusing on transgender, non-binary, and intersex issues will making a stop in Jamestown on Friday night, Oct. 26.
“Everything You Wanted To Know About Transgender, Non-binary, and Intersex People…But Were Afraid To Ask!” will begin at 6 p.m. inside the Jamestown Community College student union.
The event is organized by Gender Equality New York (GENY), New York’s statewide transgender, non-binary, and intersex advocacy organization in an effort to improve the general public’s understanding of the gender-expansive community.
The overarching goal of the campaign is to increase acceptance and respect for transgender, non-binary, and intersex New Yorkers and to decrease incidents of fear, discrimination and violence.
Each forum will include a “Trans 101” presentation and an interactive panel made up of transgender, non-binary, and intersex community members. Panelists will tell their personal stories and put a face to the “trans issue”. Audience members will be encouraged to ask questions so that they leave with a better understanding of those who are gender expansive.
The event is free and open to the public. Doors open at 5:30 p.m.
