MAYVILLE – After four weeks of testimony, the prosecution in the double murder trial of Davide Coggins has rested its case.
That’s according to a report in Friday’s Post-Journal, which says Chautauqua County District Attorney David Foley called his final witnesses to the stand on Thursday. Absent from the list of witnesses was co-suspect Steven Todd – who had reportedly struck a plea deal with the DA earlier this year in exchange for testifying against Coggins. However, no testimony from Todd has been provided. The two other suspects in the case – Joshua McCormick and Ricky Knickerbocker – also struck plea deals with the DA and did provide testimony in the trial.
Coggins and the three other men were arrested in April 2013 for the double murder of Gordon and Joyce Skinner of Frewsburg. The four were accused of burglarizing the couple’s Wheeler Hill Rd. Home on April 17, 2013 and stabbing the couple during the incident. Coggins – who the DA says was the ring-leader of the incident – faces two counts of first degree murder if convicted.
The trial will resume this morning in Chautauqua County Court.
