MAYVILLE – Another pre-trial hearing for one of the four men accused of killing Gordon and Joyce Skinner of Frewsburg took place Thursday in Chautauqua County Court.
According to an article Friday in the Jamestown Post-Journal, three people – all involved in law enforcement – took the stand to answer questions in the case against Davide Coggins of Elmira. Coggins, along with three other men from Elmira, was arrested shortly after the April 2013 double homicide took place.
Two of the three witnesses were from the New York State Police in Horseheads, NY and were involved with interrogating Coggins after he was picked up by authorities shortly after the murders took place. The third was with the Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office and was involved with searching Coggins’ vehicle for evidence.
In addition to Coggins, three other men were also charged – including 22 year old Joshua McCormick and Ricky Knickerbocker and Steven Todd – both 18 years old at the time of the murders.
Coggins and McCormick are facing two counts of first-degree murder. Because of their age at the time of the incident, Knickerbocker and Todd were each charged with two counts of second-degree murder charge. However, earlier this year, county District Attorney David Foley announced that Todd had accepted a plea deal on two counts of first degree manslaughter and as a result, he will testify against the other defendants.
Thursday was the second pre-trial hearing for Coggins. A third pre-trial hearing is scheduled for June 26. His trial is slated to begin in September.
