PORTLAND, NY – A Town of Portland man is in the county jail on $50,000 bail after allegedly assaulting a Chautauqua County sheriff’s deputy.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff’s Office says 70 year-old Paul Guest assaulted the unnamed deputy when he responded to a neighbor dispute on Patterson Lane in the town of Portland at about 5:30 p.m. Monday.
The deputy was reportedly investigating the complaint and he tried to separate Guest from another individual. At that time Guest – who was holding a drinking glass – broke the glass and attacked the deputy with it. During the altercation Guest also allegedly tried to stab the deputy in the face with a pen, striking him on his cheek right below his eye. The deputy was eventually able to place Guest into custody. Both Guest and the also needed medical attention.
Guest was arrested the following day on a warrant and was charged with attempted aggravated assault on a police officer or peace officer, reckless endangerment 2nd, resisting arrest and harassment 2nd. He was arraigned in Town of Portland Court and sent to the county jail on bail.
