JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Police Department has seen a spike in vehicle larcenies, most of which involve items being taken from unlocked cars.
According to the Post-Journal, since April 1, the department has reported 233 total larcenies in the city, though the number includes all thefts of personal property from homes, vehicles and elsewhere. In the first three months of the year, 134 total larcenies had been reported.
Lately, police say a large amount of complaints involve cars being entered and items taken. Police say to avoid being a victim of a vehicle larceny, residents should always lock their vehicles, especially since all the larceny complaints involve vehicles that were unlocked.
Anyone with information regarding the thefts or recent damages to vehicles is asked to call the Jamestown Police Department at 483-7537 or leave an anonymous tip at 483-TIPS (8477).
