JAMESTOWN – Jamestown police are investigating yet another arson incident, this time at a home on the south side of town.
City Firefighters were called to a reported fire at 206 Charles St. just before 7 a.m. Tuesday, with heavy fire being spotted on the first floor near the rear of the house when crews arrived on the scene.
It took crews about an hour to put out the fire and the result is being described as a total loss. No injuries were reported
A report Wednesday in the Post-Journal said the fire was ruled an act of arson, although police say it is not connected to the string of arsons that took place late last month on the city’s north side.
The home was unoccupied, but not condemned, with the resident at a nursing home at the time of the fire.
This is believed to be the 12 arson of the year in Jamestown. The city is averaging about 21 arsons per year over the past six year.
Anyone with information on Tuesday morning’s arson, or any of the other arsons from earlier this year, is asked to call JPD’s Anonymous Tip Line at 483-TIPS (8477), or they can leave a tip on the Tips 411 App.
