JAMESTOWN – The Jamestown Police Department has identified a suspect in the animal cruelty case involving a dog found dead, hanging from a tree on the city’s west side.
Jamestown Police say investigators have developed information on a suspect and had charges prepared by Wednesday afternoon for the person responsible for the incident.
Information on the suspect will be released this afternoon after the suspect is charged and arraigned.
Police are thanking the public for its assistance in the case, with a dozen tips being called in.
Police said they also received monetary donations to help with raising reward money or a donation for the animals cause. Samuelson is suggestion that anyone who wants to make a monetary donation can do so by calling the Chautauqua county Humane Society or the Pick of the Litter animal Shelter.
According to city police, a pit bull dog was found hanging by a tree Monday night in a wooded area off Hallock St., near the intersection with Palmer St.
The brown and white colored dog was reportedly found by a passer-by. Police say the dog had been there for some time and was decomposed, hanging by a red leash and blue nylon rope.
It is believed the animal could have been in the woods for up to a week or longer before being discovered.
